Dementia Therapy

Supporting people living with dementia is close to my heart. My dad’s journey through younger onset dementia gave me invaluable insight, and I know that a diagnosis can be difficult for the individual as well as those around them.

"I want those living with dementia to maintain their independence and zest for life as long as possible, and for their families and carers to feel confident and cared for too."

I work with people living with younger onset dementia (less than 65 years old) under the NDIS scheme, as well as people who are ageing with dementia (65 years or older) under a My Aged Care package. Using a practical strengths-based approach, I work to empower and support Carers and the person with dementia to manage their day-to-day activities, making life at home easier.

Specialised COPE training

It also inspired me to complete the Occupational Therapy Care of People with Dementia in their Environments training program (COPE) and focus my skills in both younger onset and aged care dementia, helping families touched by the diagnosis, and their Carers, to live their best lives while living with the condition.

Dementia occupational therapy services

My goal as a dementia occupational therapist is to empower you all to feel safe and comfortable with your everyday activities at home and in the community by:

  • Helping people with dementia stay independent by guiding them through activities that keep their minds and bodies active

  • Teaching Carers practical strategies to provide safe, effective care and how to confidently handle any challenges that arise as a result of the dementia

  • Encouraging a ‘can-do’ attitude that focuses on maintaining abilities and promoting well-being

  • Ensuring your home is safe by identifying risks and suggesting helpful changes
Assessing the need for adaptive equipment to make daily tasks easier
