Carer Coaching
What is Carer Coaching?
We offer a unique, personalised in-person or online coaching service to gently advise Carers of people living with dementia on all the essential information needed to confidently care for their family, friend or client on a daily basis. Our aim is to break down and work through any care challenges that you are experiencing and offer you handy tips and achievable solutions.
How does it work?
We'll start with an initial 15 minute free consult to identify your main needs, then schedule your coaching sessions over a period of 8 weeks, at a pace that suits you.
-
2 x 60 minute fortnightly sessions over the period of one month
-
2 x 30 minute follow-up phone calls over the period of one month
-
Services are for an 8 week package, we can go at your own pace
Online sessions
Our virtual coaching sessions will take place on Zoom. If you're not familiar with Zoom video meeting software, we'll gently guide you through the process of setting it up on your computer or phone.
In-person sessions
Face-to-face meetings in the Northern Rivers region are negotiated on a case-by-case basis but may be held at your home address or at a venue best suitable for you.
What topics will we discuss?
We'll be guided by the needs that we identify in your initial consult, but topics can include:
-
Caring for the Carer and the importance of your own support network
-
Carer expectations and the care role
-
Managing your loved one with dementia
-
Specific care challenges associated with managing dementia
-
Home safety and environment for those living with dementia
-
Engaging those living with dementia in activities
-
Preserving people living with dementia’s capabilities and helping them live their best lives
-
Future planning for your loved one
Who would benefit from Carer coaching?
Anyone involved in caring for someone living with dementia, including the primary carer and the broader support team, will find this coaching invaluable and comforting, knowing that you have been educated in best-practice intervention by a clinical OT expert.
After the program you'll enjoy increased confidence when responding to your specific dementia-related challenges, appreciate the importance of establishing your own support network, and possibly a schedule to ensure that you and your loved one receive regular respite.
What makes our Carer Coaching service unique?
I not only have 25 years expertise as an OT, but I have lived experience of caring for a loved one living with younger onset dementia following my dad's diagnosis, so I know what the journey is like, the difficulties that arise, the techniques for dealing with them, and the understanding that's needed to help everyone involved.
